BEHOLD THE COVER!
Christina has completed the cover illustration in full color, and
it's amazing -- from the dragon's poochy tummy to the detailed castle
and town to Wordsworth astride his trusty steed, Klause.

We're closer than ever to putting together
the final ebook. We're also going to offer some really cool extras like
dragon jewelry and T-shirts, so tell your friends and be sure to follow

Hello Friends!
As you can see from the voting record, Concept Sketch 2 (left) got the most votes from online voters. Concept Sketch 3 (right) came in second with online voters, but was also reported to me as the #1 choice of 3rd and 4th graders at Mrs. Linboom's school.
So..... Based on the two most popular cover sketches, Christina has created a final cover sketch and a title page. We considered trying to combine the two top sketches for the cover, but decided that would make the cover too busy and the type too small for an eBook. With eBooks, we have to remember that people will be seeing a tiny version of the cover on retail web sites such as Amazon, so it's better to have larger images and type without a lot of little details that are difficult to see.
So without further ado, here is the final concept cover sketch for the eBook Wordsworth and the Dragon!

Christina will create a title page for the book based on the sketch below:
Stay tuned for more sketches of the inside illustrations, as well as the
next stages of design, when the sketches eventually become final art!
We want you to judge our book by its cover!
You can vote for your favorite cover sketch in the Poll (over there, on the right).
Groups or classes can take their own vote and send the results to Scotti by email:

I love the close-up of Dash and Wordsworth on concept #1, but I thought perhaps we needed to have a reference to the missing letter C somewhere on the cover.
ReplyDeleteConcept #2 is delightful, with Dash forming the letter C.
Concept #3 is a lot of fun, with the letters around the border, minus C, of course. I like seeing Dash above and Wordsworth on a spirited Klause below!
Concept 4 gives us a wonderful portrait of Dash. His personality really comes through!
ReplyDeleteI like the way Concept 5 shows three of my favorite characters: Wordsworth, Klause, and Dash!
ReplyDeleteConcept 6 is really unusual, and it's fun to identify the faces of the characters swirling through Dash's tail.
I like the design and personality of 4 best, but really like and keep coming back to the concept of 3 - I love the block letter elements! At the risk of sounding like an AD, perhaps a combo of the two?
ReplyDeleteLike concept 4 because it is so clean and the twinkle in the Dragon's eye is so apparent. However voted for concept 2, because not only is it a beautiful drawing but clearly the storyline is reflected.
ReplyDeleteJust to be an annoying b*tch, would love to see the dragon in the form of the letter C, with the alphabet as a frame, and the boy on his horse in the space for letter C.
You are amazing Christina!!!

I really like #3. It makes me want to know what happened to "C". Plus, it just looks like a world I would like to explore.
ReplyDeleteSo many great drawings.

Thanks John and Beckie! I like your insight. We will see what the final vote turns up. Right now, it is across the board. I know Scotti and I are finding it difficult to choose.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like everyone is :)
Thank you Alan too!
ReplyDeleteWhat a variety of attractive designs you've come up with, Chistina. I especially like the alphabet border design in concept 3, and the invitingly scuptural little landscape in the background. Could you make the boy and his cavabok larger in the foreground, and show expressions on their faces as in concepts 1 & 5?
ReplyDelete-Pam
I really really like sketch 4 , there is something about the look of the dragon that makes you want to find out more. All the sketches are great but this one gets my vote. ^_^
ReplyDeleteThanks for voting, Helen!
ReplyDeleteMost of the 3rd and 4th graders in our school voted for Sketch 3. We can't wait to find out which one won! :)
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, 3rd and 4th graders! I hope you are pleased with the final results!
